Generally, sin is anything that is against the will of God in your life. Anything you do that is not the will of God for your life is considered a sin.

Let’s have a more detailed explanation of sin. Sin is first and primarily a nature before it becomes an act. People sin primarily because they have the nature of sin. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they inherited the satanic nature and therefore naturally sins.

But as we said before, a man is a sinner not because he sins; rather, he sins because he’s naturally a sinner. Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become like one who’s unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like wind our sins sweep us away.” Having said that, let’s look at some things the bible considers to be sin Gal 5 19 – 21.

Now the practices of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions that promote heresies, envy, drunkenness, riotous behaviour, and other things like these. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19–21)

Remember, God is not listing these things to condemn you or drive you away from Him. Rather, He is making us aware of the weakness of our flesh and the reality of our sinful nature so that we do not place confidence in ourselves. He lovingly reveals these things so that we can recognise our need for Him, embrace His grace, and depend on the Holy Spirit to help us live above sin.

The Christian life is not about striving in our own strength to be perfect; it is about surrendering daily to God, allowing Him to transform us from the inside out. When we fall short, we run to Him in repentance, not away from Him in shame. His grace does not excuse sin, but it empowers us to overcome it and walk in the new life He has given us through Jesus Christ.
